Reading Between the Lines

  • “Excursions included” can mean one tour per port or a choice of several. Ask how many choices there are.
  • “Drinks included” can mean all day or only at meals, and house brands or premium.
  • Gratuities are the biggest hidden cost on less inclusive lines.
  • Transfers are often included only when you buy the line’s air or hotel package.
  • Single travelers: Tauck says there is no single supplement in its Category 1 cabins.

All Inclusive River Cruises Beyond Europe

Several all-inclusive lines also sail outside Europe: Scenic on the Mekong, Uniworld in Egypt, India, Southeast Asia and Peru, and AmaWaterways in Colombia. Inclusions can differ there — Uniworld says so explicitly — so check each region. Our sister sites Nile Riverboat Cruises and Mekong Riverboat Cruises cover those rivers.

All Inclusive River Cruise Questions

Are all inclusive river cruises really all-inclusive?

Nearly. Even the most inclusive lines charge for some things: Scenic, for example, says a small number of fine wines and wellness services carry a cost. Spa treatments, premium vintages and optional private tours are the usual extras.

Are airport transfers included?

Often, with conditions. Scenic includes return transfers in Europe and Asia when flights and hotels are booked through Scenic; Uniworld includes scheduled transfers for guests who meet its transfer guidelines; Tauck includes airport transfers and select train-station transfers.

Do all inclusive river cruises cost more?

The fare is higher, but compare the total: drinks, tips and tours add up quickly on a less inclusive line. We price both ways so you can see the real difference.
